The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved its annual 5 year Crossing Safety Improvement Program to begin implementing highway-rail safety capital projects for local roads across the state. Over $341 million will be spent to help local communities and railroads pay for improvements at nearly 500 crossing locations. Two projects are scheduled for work in Lawrence County. In fiscal year 2021, $170,00 will be used to close the public crossing on County Road 750 East near Bridgeport by CSX Railroad. In fiscal year 2024, CSX will spend nearly $2.3 million on the reconstruction of a grade separation on County Road 700 East also near Bridgeport.
