Gerald M. “Jerry” Fleming

Gerald M. “Jerry” Fleming, age 62 of Sumner, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021 in Vincennes, IN at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born March 19, 1958 in Hammond, IN at Saint Margaret Hospital to Homer L. and Mary Josephine (Shidler) Fleming.

 

Jerry married Linda Truesdale, and she preceded him in death in 2004.

 

As a young man, Jerry served his country as a member of the United States Army. He served and dedicated his life to the ministry. He began his ministry when he graduated high school in 1976. Jerry has been a pastor at several churches throughout his life. He recently retired (2020) from Boswell Free Methodist Church.

 

Jerry loved watching the Chicago White Sox, fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends at cookouts and social gatherings. He was a “light” to many people in his life and truly enjoyed helping and ministering to all. Singing was a passion of Jerry’s as well.

 

Surviving family includes: his mother- Mary Josephine Fleming of Sumner: two sisters- Bertha Sue Noel of Sumner and Rebecca Ray and husband Gail of Owensboro, KY: three brothers- David Fleming of Newton, Joseph Fleming and wife Dawn of Sumner, and James Fleming and wife Julie of Sumner: two step-children- Darci Midgley and Dakota Cusick both of Paris: as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by: his father- Homer Fleming: his wife- Linda Fleming: and a nephew- Dalton Hightshoe.

 

A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at the Bridgeport Free Methodist Church. Visitation will take place at the church on Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A graveside committal will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon at Memorial Garden Cemetery in Paris, IL. Cunningham Funeral Home of Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.
