A Bridgeport man is in custody on multiple charges after an incident Monday evening at Lawrenceville City Park. Lawrenceville Police arrested 26 year old Stephon Smith around 6:15 p.m. when he intentionally drove his 2005 Jeep Cherokee through the park onto the basketball court nearly striking several people. The vehicle did hit a goalpole and then Smith left the scene onto Cedar Street and ended up in the old United Methodist Village property. He then left the vehicle and fled on foot and was later arrested. No one was reported injured. Smith has been preliminarily charged with Reckless Driving, Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Battery with a Vehicle. He was booked into the Lawrence County Jail and was being held pending the setting of bond.
