AREA LAWMAKERS OPPOSE REFORM BILL

As anticipated, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritxger Monday signed the controversial new sweeping criminal justice reform bill into law. The new law ends cash bail in many cases, sets statewide standards on police use of force, requires cops to wear body cameras and diverts low level drug offenders to treatment programs. Opponents including many in local and area law enforcement say that this new law ties the hands of police officers and will make communities across the state less safe. All three area Republican Legislators-55th District State Senator Darren Bailey, 109th District State Representative Adam Niemerg, and 110th District State Representative Chris Miller issued statements saying the governor made a grave error in signing the measure and that the legislation does little except to make Illinois less safe for all it’s citizens.
