TRAIN DERAILMENT IN JASPER COUNTY

Authorities in Jasper County report a train derailed  late Tuesday night near the small town of Wheeler spilling corn onto Illinois Route 33. The mishap occured around 10 p.m. 11 of the train cars left the tracks about 1 mile west of Wheeler west of Newton with the rest overturning into a field south of the tracks. Route 33 was closed while crews initially pushed the corn off the roadway. The train engineer and conductor escaped injury. A cleanup crew from the Canadian National Train Company in St Louis arrived Wednesday morning to begin cleanup hopefully within 24 hours.
