Illinois crude oil production totaled over 7.5 million barrells in 2020. that according to data released by the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board. The 2020 oil production level was 8.9% below 2019 levels. The drop reflected a similar drop in overall national oil production. White County was the top oil producing county in the state with strong growth in 2020 despie the pandemic. Oil production increased 7.6% in the county in 2020. Lawrence County joined 14 other top oil producing counties from southeastern Illinois who collectively produced over 90% of the state oil supply in 2020.
