The Illinois Department of Resources has announced that an area project has been named to get funding through the Illinois Habitat Special Wildlife Grant Program. The program provides money for enhancing game and non-game wildlife habitat through projects developed by not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities. Locally the Pheasants Forever project will receive $102,000 in funding to hire three fulltime biologists to provide conservation technical assistance for the restoration of improved habitat on around 20,000 acres of state owned and privately owned land in Lawrence, Clay, Crawford, Richland, Edwards, Wabash, White, and Wayne counties among others in southern Illinois. Pheasants Forever will also provide over $300,000 in matching funds.
