The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 15,486 new cases of coronavirus across the state this past weekend-Friday through Sunday-with 230 additional deaths. There were 5 positive cases reported by the Lawrence County Health Department Saturday. The county case total is now 2255 as of Saturday with 135 active. 2 people remain hospitalized with 2,092 recoveries and 28 deaths. Since the pandemic began, there have now been 1,101,819 cases statewide .in Illinois with 18,750 deaths. Knox County Indiana Sunday reported 5 new cases bringing it’s total number to 3,358 with 39 deaths. As of Sunday, the IDPH reported 681,473 vaccinations. Monday the entire state of Illinois enters into Phase 1-B of the COVID-19 state vaccination plan. Vaccinations will be given to those over the age of 65 and esssential workers such as police and firemen, food industry, among others. Vaccine dose are still arriving at a slow pace to the state and people are being asked to be patient. The IDPH has launched a website with vaccination information or Lawrence County residents can contact the LCHD to make a vaccination appointment in the coming days.
