The Illinois Department of Public Health Monday reported 4,779 confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus across the state with 53 additional deaths. Overall since the pandemic began, there have been 1,o33,526 cases and 17,627 deaths statewide. The latest Lawrence County Health Department figures show 2,176 positive cases with 59 active. 2 people remain hospitalized with 2,091 recoveries. 3 more COVID-19 deaths occured in the county bringing the toll now to 26. The LCHD is wrapping up Phase 1A of local vaccinations and are now awaiting state approval to move into Phase 1-B. That includes residents 65 and older and frontline workers such as first responders, education personnel, and others. The health department is emphasizing that not everyone in Phase 1-B will be vaccinated immediately locally due to limited allocations of the vaccine. Once Phase 1-B is permitted, they will notify the public about scheduled clinics via their Facebook page and through the media including WAKO. Appointments for vaccinations will be required.
