The Clay County Illinois States Attorneys Office is reporting that a Flora man is now in custody in connection with incidents of stabbing at a local motel last Sunday. Shane Highsmith has been preliminarily charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon. He is alledged to have stabbed several people with a knife inside the Rodeway Inn in Flora and in the parking lot area around 2 a.m. All the victims are hospitalized in stable condition and Highsmith was being held on $500,000 bond. The Illinois State Police are assisting Clay County authorities in the investigation.
