The Illinois High School Association says that the lack of revenue from spectator sports has caused some financial difficulties for the organization. IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson acknowledged this week that they have taken out a line of credit and have made some staffing reductions to cut back on costs and keep operating. Anderson did say that if the IHSA had to continue without spectator and event revenues, they probable could not survive beyond the 2020-21 school year. The IHSA did require participation fees from its 815 members this fall for the first time since 2005-05 charging $100 per school per sport for entry of each team or individual into state playoff series. Anderson said the IHSA Board of Directors has been discussing continuing those fees for winter and spring sports, but nothing has been officially decided.
