Governor J.B. Pritzger’s announcement Tuesday of the implementation of Tier 3 mitigation efforts to control the spread of coronavirus across the state has led the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) to issue a temporary halt to winter sports plans including boys and girls basketball. IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson released a statement saying the winter sports plans have been paused and put on hold with the new restrictions. He added that the IHSA Board will still meet on Thursday to map out potential paths for high school sports and activity participation through the remainder of the school year. IHSA member schools have been asked to adhere to the newly announced state regulations as the pandemic continues.
