RIDES GETS IDOT GRANT MONIES

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that $112 million is being awarded to 31 downstate transit providers as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program. The grants will help expand and improve service and provide additional transportation options. Rides Mass Transit, which serves Lawrence and surrounding counties across southern and southeastern Illinois will get over $9.8 million for its use. Rides is expected to upgrade it’s information technology hardware and software with new remote capability, construct a new multiuse vehicle storage maintenence and dispatch facility down in Wayne County, construct an operation and maintenence facility of 10,000 square feet in Olney in Richland County and purchase heavy-duty bus and maintenence equipment, mobile lifts and bus and bus facility video systems.
