The Illinois High School Association Board met in special virtual session Wednesday and emerged to announce that the proposed start date for high school basketball practice has been pushed back to at least Thursday November 19th. The recommendation was made as COVID-19 cases across the state escalate and also after results of a recent IHSA survey. That survey of 512 of 813 member schools showed that nearly 300 did not plan on starting basketball on Monday, the 16th-the original starting date for winter season practices and 212 districts were still deciding  The IHSA will meet again on Thursday, the 19th and has formally invited representatives of Governor J.B. Pritzger, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Principals Association, the Illinois Association of School Administrators, the Illinois State Board of Education and a coalition of  school superintendents to the session. IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson says the IHSA does not want to be an adversary of the state on the issue. Anderson indicated that the IHSA will provide more direction on basketball practices and games after the November 19th session.
