NO ROBINSON WINTER HIGH SCHOOL HOOP

Reports out of neighboring Crawford County indicate that Robinson Unit 2 will not be playing high school basketball this winter. Unit 2 Superintendent Josh Quick released a statement Monday confirming that. Governor J.B Pritzger and the Illinois Department of Public Health designated the sport as High-Risk and postponed it until the spring of 2021 because of the continued spread of COVID-19 across the state. However the Illinois High School Association voted to allow its member schools to play this winter beginning with practices next Monday November 16th and games on Monday November 30th. The IHSA also left the decision to play up to each individual district. Quick in his statement said the decision to not play was based on student health safety and potential legal ramifications. Robinson is the first area school system and the first member of the Little Illini Conference to announce it is not playing winter basketball. No decisions have yet been announced by other school districts including both Lawrence Unit 20 and Red Hill Unit 10 here in Lawrence County. Both school boards have meetings next week.
