AREA FARMER KILLED BY FALL

accident-investigation-2

Tragedy to the west of Lawrence County. Marion County authorities say that a Xenia man was killed in a recent farm accident. Reports indicate that 61 year old Greg Smith died after he fell from the top of a 35 foot grain bin located on his farm near the Clay-Marion County line. Emergency rescue personnel say it appears as if Smith was using a climbing harness to scale the gin when it malfunctioned and he slipped and fell to the ground. He was taken to Salem Hospital and later died there. Grain bin accidents are one of the leading causes of death for farmers during the fall harvest season.
