With concerns about the continued spread of COVID-19 throughout Lawrence County affecting district students and staff, the Lawrence Unit 20 Board of Education meeting in special session Thursday evening deadlocked 3-3 in a vote on a revised district wide all remote learning plan starting in late November. The tie means that the district will continue with it’s current plan with some students learning remotely and some in-person at school. The decision came after a lengthy discussion among board members for over an hour in executive session. Superintendent Doug Daugherty said afterward that the decision was a tough one made after consultation with the district administrators, teachers, and staff and in consultation with the Lawrence County Health Department. Daugherty did say that if the situation worsens, the matter will be revisited.
