The Illinois High School Athletic Directors Association met this week via ZOOM and discussed several matters including how many schools are planning to play winter basketball starting at the end of November. The organizations says that 372 of it’s members responded-9% said they planned to play, 29% said they will not play and 62% were unsure saying their district boards had yet to make a decision. The Illinois High School Association did vote to allow its member schools to play winter basketball going against the recommendations of the Governor and the Illinois Department of Public Health. However, the IHSA left the ultimate decision up to the various individual school districts across the state. The basketball question was not on the agenda for the Thursday Unit 20 special meeting and was not brought up. However the issue is expected to be addressed perhaps next week with the first practices allowed Monday November 16th. The next regularly scheduled Unit 20 board meeting is Wednesday, November 18th.
