Sammie Lee James Jones, age 92, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, Illinois. She was born on December 09, 1927 in Lamesa, Texas, the daughter of Samuel Houston and Ida Mae (Taylor) James. She married Jack W. Jones on October 11, 1946, and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1988.

Sammie attended Cooper High School and Morton High School in Texas. She graduated from Borger High School, Borger Texas, in 1945. After high school, she worked at the Retail Credit Bureau. She was a member of the New Hope Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; and one sister, Ellen Jean Coleman.

Survivors include three daughters, Marcia McVickar and husband, Paul of O’Fallon, Illinois, Pam Cummins and husband, Bruce of Sumner, Illinois, and Kim Conover and husband, John of Sumner, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Jack McVickar of O’Fallon, Illinois, Jaci Lederman of Haubstadt, Indiana, Scott McVickar of Collinsville, Illinois, Kari Hulfachor of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Kaci Conover Leon of Weiden, Germany, Jeff Cummins of Sumner, Illinois, and Kellen Conover of St. Louis, Missouri; and 13 great-grandchildren, Chase and Rylee McVickar, Samuel and Jacob Romershausen, Abigail Lindsey, Nicholas and Michael McVickar, Garrett and Madalynn Hulfachor, Emilie and Cali Cummins, and Ophelia and Louie Conover.

Private services will be conducted. Burial will be in the Sumner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Village Rehab 2101 James Street Lawrenceville, Illinois 62439 or Helping His Hands 2011 Willow Street, Suite B Vincennes, Indiana 47591.
