The Illinois Department of Employment Security says that as the state economy slowly recovers and improves so too does unemployment across the state including southeastern Illinois. The IDES released figures this week showing drops in joblessness across the area from August to September. The unemployment rate in Lawrence County in September was 7.1% down from 7.9% in August. In Richland County 6.5% in September down from 7.1% in August. In Crawford County 6.3% in September down from 7.5% in August and in Wabash County 5.7% in September down from 6.5% in August. However, the September 2020 figures remain well above the 2019 September numbers as the economic improvement continues from the effects of the COVID-19 business shutdown.
