The Illinois High School Association Board of Directors will meet next week to determine the plan for winter sports for the 2020-21 school year and announce further details moving forward. Executive Director Craig Anderson said in a statement that the organization has made positive strides in discussions with the Illinois Department of Public Health to be allowed to conduct winter sports as scheduled. Due to the ongoing pandemic and state health regulations, the IHSA reconfigured the fall sports schedule moving football, volleyball and soccer to the spring of 2021. It also set the date of November 16th as the first day of practice for winter sports such as basketball. Those topics will be brought up at the session set for Wednesday October 28th. The IHSA also has announced it will allow athletes in the spring and summer sports in 2021 to play for both a high school team and a non-school team at the same time for just 2021 season. The board will also hear a proposal to postpone the wrestling season on the 28th.
