The Illinois Department of Public Health Monday reported 3,113 new confirmed cases of coronavirus across the state with 22 additional deaths. The Lawrence County Health Department was notified Monday of two county residents testing positive-a female 18 and under and a female in her 30s. The cases are not related and both subjects are currently quarantining at home with contact tracing underway. With the addition of those new cases, the LCHD numbers for the county indicate there have been 309 positives with 40 of those cases still active. 1 person is hospitalized while 259 people have recovered. There have been 10 deaths in the county. Since the pandemic began, there have been 347,161 cases of the disease statewide with 9,236 deaths. The IDPH announced Monday that Region 5 of the state which includes Wabash, Wayne, White, Edwards and other far southern Illinois counties will have COVID-19 resurgence mitigations implemented starting this Thursday. That is because the region has various metrics that exceed the state threshhold for disease spread. Lawrence County is in Region 6.
