George Daniel Selby 73 of Bridgeport, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, October 14th at 12:23 P.M. at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana with his loving family at his side.
He was born on November 14, 1946 to Alverna (Lagout) Selby and Durwood Selby in Vincennes, Indiana.
George married the love of his life Betty (Crump) and celebrated over 53 years together and she survives.
He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War as a Tank Engineer.
George honored his fellow veterans by serving in the Military Rites for over 300 veterans’ funerals.
He retired as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Ambraw Asphalt.
George loved spending time at the River with his family and friends
He was a lifelong dedicated member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW .
He is survived by his wife Betty, his 3 loving children Shannon Dwight Selby and wife Amy of Bridgeport, Steve Cassem and wife Susan of Bridgeport, Paula Leg and husband Terry of Chauncey, 4 grandchildren Hailey Nichole Selby of Bridgeport, Nathan Dwight Selby of Bridgeport, Cohen James Cassem of Bridgeport, Calvin Daniel Cassem of Bridgeport and 3 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents Alverna and Durwood, 2 sisters Helen Jones, Nora Kurowski and 1 brother Wayne Schoonover.
George’s wishes were to be cremated with a Celebration of Life at a later date.
