The Lawrenceville City Council has taken an initial step to help save the United Methodist Village. Thursday night they approved a resolution approving a preliminary subdivision platte for the property located in south Lawrenceville. If all goes according to plan, Mayor Don Wagner said that after sewer lines are inspected and the cost of water line replacements are figured, the city would eventually take over those lines that are now private and a surcharge will be imposed on the existing rental units to recoup the repair costs over the years. Wagner added that he hopes the city’s action will help keep the UMV remain open and expedite sale of those properties in the future. The Council also approved the annual Tax Levy of approximately $515,000; about a 3% increase from the previous year and the Fiscal Year 2020 Audit. Police chief Jim White also announced that trick or treat hours in the city will be Saturday October 31st from 5 until 8 p.m. with an emphasis on children only going to home with their porch lights on.
