Hazel I. Steffey, age 82, of Flat Rock, Illinois passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Cotillion Ridge in Robinson, Illinois. She was born on November 10, 1937 in Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Edgington) Christine. She married Mandell Steffey on July 03, 1959 and he survives.

Hazel was an operator for GTE from 1956 until 1979. She was then the secretary for the University of Illinois Extension Office from 1979 until her retirement in November of 2002. She was a member of Bible Chapel Church. She attended and was very active with the Birds Free Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, worked with the youth, and had 15 plus years of perfect attendance. Hazel took care of her family in so many ways, and they will remember her as being a loving mother and grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Carole Thompson; and one step-son-in-law, Dwight Rose.

Survivors include her husband, Mandell; two children, Jeanne (Greg) Rice of Robinson, Illinois and Neal (Sandy) Steffey of Palestine, Illinois; two step-children, Janet Rose of Columbus, Indiana and David (Jill) Steffey of Brookville Ohio; one brother, David (Julie) Christine of Hoopeston, Illinois; two sisters, Ellen Dollahan and Lois Ulrey both of Robinson, Illinois; four grandchildren, Heather (Charlie) Stout, Justin (Stacey) Rice, Hillary (Evan) McCrillis, Halley Steffey and friend, Caleb; five step-grandchildren, Ashley Steffey, Nicki Tanner, Tara Jordan, Matthew Rose, and Amanda Rose; four great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 03, 2020 at 3:00 PM CST at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, Illinois. Visitation will be on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM CST at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, Illinois. Burial will be in the Jones Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Birds Free Methodist Church.
