Curtis Glen Smith

Curtis Glen Smith, age 60 of Herrin and formerly of Lawrenceville, passed away at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 due to an apparent stroke. He was born in Lawrenceville on December 29, 1959 to Harold L. and Anna Ruth (Stansfield) Smith.

After graduating from Lawrenceville High School, Curtis attended Northern Illinois University. He was proud of the Bachelor’s Degree he earned in Computer Science at NIU and put his degree to use as a systems analyst for Illinois Century Network. Curtis remained an NIU Huskies fan the rest of his life. He also enjoyed watching his boys play sports as they were growing up, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs, and the Illini. Curtis developed into quite a pool player throughout his adulthood. He definitely knew how to run a table.

Surviving family includes: his three sons- James Curtis Smith of Herrin, Logan Smith of Newton, and Lawrence Smith of Herrin: two brothers of Lawrenceville- Robin Smith and Scott Smith: and a very good friend that the family extends a special “thank you” to- Phil Daniels of Sparta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold L. and Anna Ruth Smith, and one brother in infancy, Scott Allen Smith.

A “walk-through” viewing will be held at the Cunningham-Young Funeral Home in Lawrenceville on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.
