The Illinois State Board of Education has announced that 471 Local Education Agencies (LEAs) including 2 here in Lawrence County, will share in over $80 million dollars in grant money to help close the digital divide among Illinois students. Funding for the Digital Equity Formula Grants comes from the Federal C.A.R.E.S (Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security) Act. Closing the digital divide has been a goal of the ISBE since March when the pandemic forces schools statewide to suddenly shift to remote learning. The grants ensure that students have the technology they need for learning opportunities this fall. According to figures released by ISBE, Red Hill Unit 10 will get close over $80,000 and Lawrence Unit 20 over $93,000 in grant funding for their use in this area.
