PRELIMINARY PLANE CRASH REPORT

The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on the plane crash on Saturday August 29th in northeastern Lawrence County which took the life of Knox County Superior Court Two Judge Ryan Johanningsmeier. According to the report, Johanningsmeier took off from an airport in Tampa Florida and had landed at the Sullivan County Indiana airport for fuel. He then took off headed to the Mid-American Air Center in Lawrence County. The judge recieved clearance to land at the airport and was beginning to descend when he fell out of contact with the control tower and an alert was then issued. The wreckage of the plane was found in a rural wooded area a few miles north of the airport after a search. There were signs of multiple tree impacts north of the crash site with a 250 foot debris path. Visibility was about 1/2 mile when the crash occured. Again, the findings are preliminary and could change as the on-going investigation continues
