The Unit 20 Board of Education met Wednesday, it’s first get together since the new school year began last week. Superintendent Doug Daugherty reported that the start has gone well with both students and staff adapting to the health-safety protocols such as wearing masks and social distancing. He also said that 835 students in the district are in in-person instruction. Preliminary enrollment figures according to Daugherty show an increase of 13 students over 2019. The board did approve a 1 year contract with the East Lawrence Education Association that includes a 3% raise and increased insurance payments. The pact has already been ratified by the union. Also approved was the tenative 2020-21 budget of approximately $11 million. It is now on public display and is anticipated to be approved at a hearing on September 23rd.
