Jack C. Piper, age 88, of Sumner, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on February 13, 1932 in Olney, Illinois, the son of Marion X. and Nettie Bell (Williams) Piper. On February 24, 1952 he married the love of his life, Jewel A. Wheeler, and they spent 68 wonderful years together.

Jack was an ironworker for 45 years and served his country with the United States Army. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local # 22 and the Sumner United Methodist Church. His hobbies included hunting and fishing, as well as mushroom and ginseng hunting. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and papa.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Marion Jean Engledow.

Survivors include his wife, Jewel; one daughter, Judy Pauley and husband, Rick; one brother, Jerry Piper and wife, Blanche; and one sister, Janet Ulrich all of Sumner, Illinois; as well as three grandchildren, Jaclyn Peterson and husband, Matthew, Joanna Johnson and husband, Roger, and Matt Pauley and wife, Amelia; and eight great-grandchildren, Norah and Charlotte Peterson, Gavin Emmons, Jack, Emma, Abigail, and Ben Johnson, and Alanis McClure.

Jack’s wishes were to be cremated, with no formal services at the present time. A celebration of Jack and Jewel’s life together will be conducted at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Sumner United Methodist Church. Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
