109th District State Representative Darren Bailey has filed a petition in court to hold Governor J.B. Pritzger in civil contempt. The legislator says that the governor has issued executive orders despite a court ruling last month that declared such actions unconstitutional. The filing asks the court to order the governor to rescind three orders issued last month or hold him in the Clay County Illinois Jail until he complies. Bailey says the matter is not over politics and that it has to do with following the law. Bailey has been a proponent of having the General Assembly meet in Springfield to address the public health issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
