The Illinois High School Association met in special session Wednesday and emerged to announced it’s intended sports plan for 2020-21. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic led to the proposal of unprecedented scheduling changes including playing all sports over the course of fall, winter, spring and now a summer season. As a result, several team sports will be shifting to new seasons with football and girls volleyball moving from the fall to the spring. Right now, the fall season will run from August 10th to October 17th and include boys and girls golf, girls tennis, and boys and girls cross country. The winter season will run from November 16th through February 13th and include boys and girls basketball. The spring season will run from February 15th to May 1st and feature football and girls volleyball. The summer season will run from May 3rd to June 26th and include baseball and softball. State tournament series decisions will be made on a sport-by-sport basis as each season moves forward. The IHSA also extended the current Phase 4 Return to Play Guidelines.
