Unemployment improved from May to June in southeastern Illinois. That according to the latest figures released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. Lawrence County’s jobless rate in June was 10.9% down from 13.4% in May. Other surrounding counties also saw improvement. Wabash County from 13.6% down to 9.8%, Richland County from 11.7% down to 9.3% and Crawford County from 10.4% down to 9.5%. The drops are attributed to the gradual reopening of the state over the past 30 days. The June 2020 unemployment rates are still way above the numbers for June of 2019 due to the business shutdown caused by the pandemic.
