Thursday July 2nd is a big date in the history of Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. The medical facility in Lawrenceville will celebrate it’s 70th anniversary. Groundbreaking was held back in February of 1949 with work beginning in March. On July 2nd 1950 a large public ceremony was held to open the hospital with the first patients admitted on July 5th. Since then, the hospital has changed and expanded with a new Emergency Room in 2004 and a Surgical Center in 2014. Today LCMH is a 25 bed critical access hospital offering a wide variety of medical services in affiliation with Deaconess Illinois. Plans for a public celebration were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but hospital C.E.O Don Robbins said that administration, staff and employees will hold various activities to mark the day.
