Two people died Monday night in a single vehicle accident in Carmi. Police say that a 29 year old driver and a 21 year old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal crash at the intersection of 5th and Fackney Streets. Witnesses say that the car was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed before it veered out of control off the road and hit a large tree around 9:30 p.m. Central Time. Initial investigation indicates that alcohol may have played a factor. The names of those killed have not been released.
