Ameren Illinois is at work modernizing the energy grid to enhance electrical service reliability for customers in the Bridgeport and Sumner area of Lawrence County. In January contractors began replacing more than 130 power poles and power lines along a 4 1/2 mile off-road stretch adjacent to the CSX railroad right-of-way. Crews are constructing a 69-kilovolt power line and a three-circuit 12 kilovolt power line and are also hardening the grid by strategically placing fiberglass composite poles along the project route to better withstand high winds. The project is scheduled to be completed in early June and coast around $1.3 million.
