The Illinois Department of Public Health announced there were 1,209 new cases of the coronavirus in the state Friday. There were 53 reported deaths. That adds up to a total of 8,904 cases and 210 deaths in 64 counties. DeWitt, Jersey, Effingham and Jasper counties reported new cases Friday. Both Jasper and Effingham counties are in southeastern Illinois. Still no reported cases of the disease in Lawrence, Richland or Wabash counties. The Department of Natural Resources has barred all activities at state parks, fish and wildlife areas, recreational areas and historic sites in another move to stem the spread of the virus. However the ILDNR says with proper state authoritization people can hunt and fish on privately-owned property. The Illinois spring trout fishing season officially began Saturday.
