Illinois State Police District 12 at Effingham has announced they will be conducting Nighttime Enforcement (NITE) Patrols in Lawrence and neighboring Richland Counties in February. Those patrols will allow the State Police to focus on prevention, detection, and enforcement in response to impaired drivers and those not wearing seat belts especially between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. The number of unrestrained drivers killed in traffic crashes is higher during those hours and that combined with drunk or drug impaired driving means even more traffic deaths could occur during those hours.
