LAWRENCE COUNTY DEATH INVESTIGATION

Authorities in Lawrence County continuing to investigate an apparent drowning late last week. According to Coroner Shannon Steffey, early on Friday, December 27th around 12:40 a.m. Lawrence County 911 Dispatch recieved a call about a male subject who had fallen off a bridge into the Embarras River on County Road 1000 East northwest of Lawrenceville. Emergency rescue and law enforcement personnel from Lawrence County, Bridgeport, and Vincennes along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources responded to the location and dive teams recovered the body of 28 year old Eli Latch of Carmel Indiana formerly of Sumner around 11:40 a.m. Latch is presumed to have drowned but the manor and cause of death is pending at this time. An autopsy was conducted by a forensic pathologist. Again, investigation to the death continues by the Sheriffs Department and the Coroner’s Office. Funeral arrangements for Eli Latch are pending at the Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home.
