Beginning this week, INdigital based out of Fort Wayne Indiana working with Lawrence County 911 and E.T.S.B. officials announced that public safety had taken a major step forward. Through a strong coordinated effort, Lawrence County has joined local 911 centers across the country in the use of texting for 911. The launch this week will allow the public in Lawrence County to directly access 911 through text messaging from their wireless handsets. Lawrence County 911 will also have the ability to initiate a text from 911. This enables dispatchers to reach callers in case of hangups and accidental calls to 911. As of this week, 911 texting services are available through AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
