Illinois State Police in Effingham say a Flora man was seriously injured in an alcohol-related single vehicle accident in Clay County this week. A 2009 Toyota being driven by 24 year old Caleb Smith was traveling south on the Fairfield Road when he lost control. The car spun off the road and into a ditch embankment before coming to rest. Smith was initially taken by ambulance to Clay County Hospital in Flora and later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. After investigation, Smith was ticketed for DUI-Alcohol, Improper Lane Usage, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid An Accident, and Failure to Wear a Seat Belt.
