Lawrence County Memorial Hospital and the Lawrence County Health Department will co-host a fundraising event early next week to benefit the Lawrence County Senior Center in Lawrenceville. The center located at 1705 South 12th Street is in a tight financial crunch due to the lack of Fiscal Year 2019 funding from the Illinois Department on Aging. That money was due early in October. The center serves meals to the elderly there and also at sites throughout Lawrence County. It also delivers meals to those seniors who are shut in. On Monday October 28th the public is invited to a “community cookout” at the center from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. where personnel from both the hospital and health department will serve hamburgers, hot dogs and other food items for a free will donation with all the proceeds to go to the center to help with expenses.
