Russell Leroy Goins, Sr., age 77, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born on November 21, 1941 in Lawrence County, Illinois, the son of Roy Martin and Lorene E. (Russell) Goins. He married Alvyna K. Chavis on July 23, 1967 and she survives.
Russell was a pumper and gauger for Texaco for 25 years. He then went on to work for the Illinois Department of Corrections in Lawrence County for six years. He was a member of St. James AME church. He served his country in the US Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Kenneth Goins; one sister, Kathleen Edwards; and one grandson, Drew Goins.
Survivors include his wife, Alvyna; one son, Russell L. ‘Rusty’ Goins, Jr. and wife, Elaine, of Lawrenceville, Illinois; one daughter, Stephanie K. Goins of Lake Villa, Illinois; one step granddaughter Jessi Bowler of Lawrenceville, Illinois, and three sisters, Sallee Walden of Princeton, Indiana, Joyce Cooper of Bridgeport, Illinois, and Marva Green of Lawrenceville, Illinois.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Portee Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, Illinois.
