Buford Clyde “Bud” Balding

Buford Clyde “Bud” Balding, age 91, of Lawrenceville, Illinois, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Lawrence County Memorial Hospital. He was born May 8, 1928 in Edwards County, Illinois, the son of Melvin and Martha (Lindsey) Balding, the youngest of eight children. He married Mona Scaggs on May 8, 1958. Bud always joked he could never forget their birthdays or their anniversary, because they all fell on the same day. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2006.

Bud was employed for over twenty-five years at Roadmaster in Olney, Illinois. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the United States Army in the Thunder Bird Unit and drove a tank. He was an outdoor person who enjoyed nature, mowing, gardening, and sitting in the sun. He was an avid reader with an interest in the Civil War era, and enjoyed watching Western shows.

Preceding Bud in death were his wife and parents.

Surviving includes his daughter, Jana K. Balding, of Lawrenceville, Illinois and her companion, Don Ketterman.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour of 11:00 a.m. at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside. Memorial donations made be made to Lawrence Township Library.
