109th District Republican State Representative Darrin Bailey says there is not a true conservative candidate in this area that would be able to replace veteran 15th District Congressman John Shimkus. He made those comments over the Labor Day weekend when asked his thoughts on Shimkus’ announcement last Friday that he would not run for re-election to the U.S. House in 2020. Bailey did not close the door on potentially running for federal office saying he is “thinking and listening.” But he indicated that right now he is focusing on a run for the 55th District State Senate seat being vacated by Dale Righter who is also not running for re-election.
