The Maxine E. Spitler Foundation this week awarded grants to 13 organizations from Jasper and Lawrence Counties. A total of $24,007 was given to the various organizations chosen to receive funding for their projects. The grant recipients included four from Lawrence County, all of which will use the funds to provide activities for youth or sponsor projects that care for domestic and wild animals or saving any animal species in danger of extinction. The recipients include the Lawrence County Humane Society, the Lawrence County Farm Bureau’s Ag In the Classroom program, the Embarras River Basin Agency’s school supplies program, the Sumner Attendance Center and the Sumner Attendance Center’s physical education department. Created in 1997, the Foundation has distributed over $716,100.
