Mt. Carmel Police Officer Released from Hospital

    Mt. Carmel Police Officer Daniel Hopper was released from Wabash General Hospital after sustaining minor injuries during a vehicle pursuit that started at Mt. Carmel High School and ended near Owensville, Indiana. Hopper was at the high school investigating a threat when a 17-year-old suspect hit Hopper with his vehicle.  Mt. Carmel Police along with a Wabash County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the area and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but he failed to stop. Gibson County law enforcement apprehended the driver after reportedly shooting out a tire to stop the pickup on Indiana Highway 165 west of Owensville, less than 20 minutes after he fled Illinois. The 17 year-old was transported back to Illinois where he is charged with aggravated battery to a police officer. Police have not released the teen’s name.
