Laura Scaggs Prior, age 56, of Princeton, Indiana passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 at her residence. She was born August 19, 1962 in Pontiac, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond ‘Ray’ and Elizabeth ‘Jane’ Harvey Snyder. She married Michael Scaggs, November 1982, and he preceded her in death February 2002. She married Edward Prior on January 14, 2011 and he survives.
Laurie was a nurse. She worked for many years in various nursing homes and finished her career with Dr. Chak when she retired in 2013. Her memberships include Delta Theta Tau and Patoka United Methodist Church. She was a Pittsburg Steelers fan, and she enjoyed music and singing hymns. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was known by her grandchildren as “LuLu.”
Preceding her in death was her son, Evan Matthew Scaggs; husband, Mike; father, Ray; and in-laws, Keith and Mary Lou Scaggs.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; son, Christopher Scaggs and wife, Jessica of Lancaster, Illinois; daughter, Courtney Finley and husband, Daniel of Bridgeport, Illinois; her mother, Jane; sister, Susan Taylor and husband, Michael of Charleston, Illinois; stepson: John Prior and wife, Erin of Boston; stepdaughter, Kathy McNerney and husband, Robert of Long Beach, California; eight grandchildren: Mason Scaggs, Natalie Finley, Bentley Finley, Abby Prior, Cara Prior, Madison McNerney, Robert McNerney, and Connor McNerney; and niece, Kaitlyn Taylor.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 3, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Sumner United Methodist Church in Sumner, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Sivert-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Sumner, Illinois. Burial will be in the Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Laura’s memory to the Patoka United Methodist Church.
