A group pushing for the state of Illinois to secede from Chicago is planning three events this month in Lawrence County. An online petition created by Collin Cliburn is looking for signatures from people who support the separation of Illinois from Cook, Lake, Dupage and North Will Counties. Cliburn has a Facebook group called The Illinois Separation and the goal of the group’s petition is to gain 200,000 signatures. The group has meetings scheduled in Lawrence County to get their word out. The first will be March 16th at The Port in Bridgeport from 4 to 6 p.m. The second meeting will be March 23rd at the American Legion in Lawrenceville from noon to 2 p.m. The final meeting will be March 30th at the Christy Township Fire Department in Sumner from noon to 4 p.m. More information is available at www.theillinoisseparation.com.
