Richard ‘Dick’ Leo Poppe

Richard ‘Dick’ Leo Poppe, age 91, of Lawrenceville, Illinois passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born March 18, 1927 in New Bremen, Ohio, the son of Leo and Edna (Hirschfield) Poppe. He married Patricia Ann Wells in 1951 and she preceded him in death in 1990.

Dick was a graduate of Sidney High School in Ohio. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Trine University. He worked for Marathon Pipe Line for 36 years. His memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, Lawrence County Country Club, VFW of Casey, American Legion, Elks, and Moose. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving his country in WWII.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; two sons, Patrick O. Poppe and Mark Poppe; and one sister, Emily Hawker.

Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 10:00 AM at the Lawrenceville City Cemetery with military rites. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the Lawrenceville Senior Citizens. Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Illinois is in charge of the arrangements.
